What is a word ladder?

A daily route, not a hidden word
Poople shows the starting word immediately. The target is also known from the beginning. The challenge is building the shortest legal connection between those two points.
Unlike a hidden-word guessing game, a submitted row does not reveal colored clues about a secret answer. It becomes the next rung in the route, and the following word must differ from that row by one letter.
This structure makes strategy visible. A route can move temporarily away from the target if that detour reaches a more flexible family of words.
A simple example
GIRL → GILL → PILL changes one letter per move. A complete ladder continues through more valid words until it reaches POOP. The exact daily route changes with the start word, but the rule never does.
